OVERVIEW

A classic safari lodge, the original Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is one of the oldest residences in Rwandan safari experiences. Founded upon conservation and giving back to the land, the lodge is a 100% community-owned venture in partnership with the Rwandan government, The International Gorilla Conservation Program and African Wildlife Foundation to benefit the SACOLA community trust, local custodians of Rwanda’s Gorilla rich forests.

About Sabyinyo

Designed as gracious country manors and rustic cottages on a hillside overlooking the volcanoes, Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge appeals to a by-gone era in Virunga rainforest explorations. In the daytime, the gardens are filled with rich birdsongs and at turndown, the log fireplaces are set for perfect relaxation in a haven of cool mountain air. Perfect for couples and families, the lodge offers six cottages, two suites and one family cottage.

Sabyinyo is named after the Gorilla group found on the Virunga mountain slopes of Rwanda

EXPERIENCES

About half of the world’s entire wild population of Mountain Gorillas is found on the Rwandan slopes of the Virungas, with habituated family groups comprising seven to over thirty-five individuals. One of the most poignant wilderness experiences, an encounter with a Silverback Gorilla is unforgettable.

Located only 15 minutes drive from the Volcanoes Park where you begin your trek to see the magnificent Mountain Gorilla. Extra excursions available:
