EXPLORING RWANDA’S NATURAL AND CULTURAL WONDERS. Volcanoes National Park is more than just a destination for Gorilla Trekking; it’s a journey into Rwanda’s breathtaking landscapes, rich heritage, and unique biodiversity. Here’s an overview of the experiences awaiting visitors in this extraordinary region:
Volcano Hiking: Peaks of Karisimbi, Bisoke, and Muhabura
For adventurous spirits, Volcanoes National Park offers challenging treks to three prominent volcanic peaks:
Mount Bisoke A moderately challenging trek, Mount Bisoke boasts a stunning crater lake at its summit, which lies at 3,700 meters. The hike takes approximately five hours to a full day and is perfect for those seeking a rewarding climb with spectacular views.
Mount Karisimbi The highest peak in Rwanda, standing at 4,507 meters, Karisimbi is a two-day journey with camping along the way. The “White Shell” mountain frequently wears a crown of clouds, adding to the allure of this demanding trek.
Mount Muhabura Reaching 4,127 meters, this full-day climb is the most demanding of the three. Muhabura’s summit offers panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes, including neighboring volcanoes and the scenic twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo.
Shorter hikes include the path to Lake Ngezi, a small lake nestled at the base of Mount Bisoke, offering a three-hour round-trip with possible wildlife sightings.
