Karingani Reserve
Karingani takes its name from the Shangaan word for storyteller, and its story is one of renewal. In southern Mozambique, the reserve is restoring a vast wild landscape and its wildlife under a 100-year conservation vision, working hand in hand with the Mozambican government and the communities who share the land.
Karingani lies where two national parks in two countries meet, Kruger in South Africa and Limpopo in Mozambique.

Karingani Reserve
Karingani covers nearly 370,000 acres of southern Mozambique, bounded by the Olifants River and Massingir Dam to the north and by South Africa’s Kruger National Park, along a 45-mile shared border, to the west. It forms part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Conservation Area, linking protected land across Mozambique, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
The reserve is home to the Big Five, along with strong populations of African Wild Dog and Spotted Hyena and a wide variety of antelope, birds and reptiles.

Karingani’s reintroduction plan is bringing more than 4,000 animals home, from Impala and Nyala to Zebra and Wildebeest.

Conservation
The work follows the International Standards for Ecological Restoration and is measured each year in a published progress report. Satellite imagery, drones, camera traps and GPS collars track the recovery of plant and animal life, together with traditional knowledge of the land, as the reserve moves from restoring its ecosystems to sustaining them.
Conservation here is shared with over 34,000 people in more than 10 neighboring communities. The reserve has built schools and clinics, a community farm and an eco-lodge developed with one of the communities, and its scholarships train young Mozambicans in hospitality and wildlife tracking.
